Corn steady to slightly lower
Beans +3 to +4
Weather continues to be the driver to the markets near term. With scattered storms in the last couple of days and forecasts for favorable rains in the next week to ten days, pressure will be on the grain complex. There continues to be issues in the Dakotas and a few pockets in the Eastern Corn Belt. Given this, it’s going to be hard for corn to rally too much in the next week or so. Outside factors may have to do the work, and there is not a lot of bullish news there, either.
For soybeans, we continue to be in a somewhat range bound market, but the overall picture still shows a much larger carry over for Old Crop and a potential for an even larger carry over for New Crop. Demand is good, but there is no new significant demand in the offing.
Crude is down a little again today, trading in the $46 to $47 dollar area. The dollar index was lower yesterday and the Federal Reserve is wrapping up a two day meeting today. Many expect more details about the timing and severity of the next rate hike.
