As FC prepares highly effective, functional managers for increased responsibilities and the future demands that will be placed upon them - special attention must be given upon them - special attention must be given to providing these managers with a broader, more strategic perspective. Such perspective must enable them to see the whole of the business beyond specific function, division, or department. This more strategic perspective further enhance the ability to provide strong leadership for the future. This is what LEAP is all about.

Patterned after an MBA program and customized to the needs of cooperatives, this non-degree, 12-month management and leadership development program focuses on development needs for both current and for future positions. The curriculum integrates conceptual and theoretical coursework, provides opportunities for practice, and enables practical application to the real and critical needs of cooperatives (through Pinnacle Project, particularly.) LEAP will enable participants to strategically frame their thinking, use new knowledge and tools, and apply what is learned in the context of the company.

LEAP is comprised primarily of a set of five components:

  • Core courses, including instruction from Purdue faculty, industry guest speakers and consultants;
  • Field visit experience (farm operations, agribusinesses, non-ag companies);
  • Advanced case study analysis, discussion, recommendations and debrief;
  • Special Issue Sessions, complementing the coursework and giving the program needed flexibility to address issues driven by industry and economic issues that could impact cooperatives and that arise in the real and volatile business environment over the course of the program period;
  • Pinnacle Project, an intense, self-identified project of high priority and significant importance for the cooperative that would allow the application of content and tools learned in the program.
