Brock will be a senior at Iowa State this fall where he is pursuing a degree in Agricultural Studies. He is a member of the interactive trailer summer intern project team. His summer mentor is Ron Simmons and his supervisor is Jason Fink. So far, Brock has scouted fields, calibrated shuttles, delivered seed and fertilizer, attended meetings and sat in on conference calls. When asked what he has learned so far, Brock responded that he has already learned more now then he thought he would during his whole internship and he’s enjoying all of it. When asked what he has been most surprised by, he said, “All of the safety rules and regulations and all of the time spent to make FC a safer place to work. I'm glad FC cares enough about their employees to do everything they can to make the job safer,” said Ferris.

Bradley Ganeff
Agronomy Sales Intern
bganeff@fccoop.com
Brad will also be a senior at Iowa State University this fall. He is majoring in Agricultural Studies with a minor in Agronomy. Brad is not a new face to FC, as he has worked for the company in the Dayton office. With this internship opportunity, Brad was looking to expand his knowledge in other areas of the company. Since the start of his position this summer, he has interacted with farmers and potential customers, expanded knowledge on seed traits and variety, as well as scouted crops and performed some chemical work. His mentor is Dave Lemke and his supervisor is Eric Lerdal. The thing that has surprised Brad the most is the number of people he interacts with and works with at FC and how everyone works successfully together. Brad is looking forward to learning more about the day-to-day activities of the salesmen.

Brent Haase
Operations Intern
bhaase@fccoop.com
Brent is working out of the Rake office this summer as the operations intern. Brent has spent time in the Air Force and is now at South Central College in Mankato which is where he learned about FC. He says that agronomy is by far his first choice for employment. He has a strong work ethic and looks forward to expanding his knowledge in agronomy this summer. Brent’s mentor is Dan Torreson and his supervisor is Nathan Preuss. So far Brent has been involved in a wide variety of work. He has delivered seed, chemicals, NH3, taken soil samples, and helped out in the seed warehouse loading seed orders and treating seed. He has also been able to assist with the seed plots and perform the early scouting. Brent told us the best thing about his job is that it has not been limited. The one thing he found to be unique about the company is the size and structure. He was also surprised at the structure of this internship. “I feel I'm learning far more than I can in the classroom. Working with FC has given me exposure to many local producers and career opportunities,” Brent commented.

Shane Hammen
Agronomy Sales Intern
shammen@fccoop.com
Shane will be a senior this fall at Iowa State University. He is pursuing a degree in Agricultural Business and is part of the Agronomy Sales team this summer at FC. Shane grew up on a family farm where he learned to love agriculture. When asked about what made him choose FC for his internship, Shane said he looked forward to helping out as much as possible and learning about the company. Much to his surprise - that has been an understatement! “I’ve learned how to run the chemical shed and load tender trucks; how to calibrate and fill shuttle tanks, and scout fields. I’ve learned about which chemicals typically give the best results for certain weed pressures. I’ve also learned some new weeds that I wasn’t familiar with and am continually bettering my ability to identify problem weeds in this region,” Shane explained. “We’ve also had a Regional Agronomy Workshop which brushed up my knowledge on some basic crop growth and development,” said Hammen. When asked what he has found to be most unique about FC, he said,“To start, I want to say that I’ve found FC employees to be very kind and helpful. From top to bottom, everyone has been exceptionally nice and really made me feel like part of the team. One thing that I have found to be unique is how each location works together getting each other chemicals, feed, seed, and equipment that is needed,” Shane noted. He expects to learn more about scouting fields and deciding which chemicals to use at what rates, and is hoping to get an opportunity to interact with farmers and get involved in the planning and sales processes.

Sam Pudenz
FC 101 Intern
spudenz@fccoop.com
Sam will be a sophomore this fall at Iowa State University where he is majoring in Agricultural Business. Sam is working as the FC 101 intern out of the Bayard office this summer. When asked about what surprised him the most he said, “The thing that most surprised me about FC is how safety-conscious everyone is when they are doing day to day work. I’ve also noticed how everyone always has coffee together in the morning before they get started just to shoot the breeze and get a general feel for what is going on that day. Both aspects seem to help keep things underway very well in morale and safety.” Sam’s summer mentor is Chris Pearson and his supervisor is Mark Drake. So far, Sam has been involved loading grain trains headed to an ethanol plant in California, tendering for the applicators, doing inventory, performing maintenance on applicators for post-application as well as numerous other duties.

Jeff will be a senior at Iowa State University this fall where he is majoring in Agricultural Studies. Jeff grew up in the Farnhamville area and has gotten to know FC quite well. This is Jeff’s second summer interning with FC. Last summer he was a grain/agronomy intern. This summer, Jeff is an operations intern out of the Farnhamville office. Some of his duties have included hauling grain and fertilizer, loading trains, and spraying. Jeff looks forward to gaining an in-depth understanding of the internal operations of the cooperative along with a lot of hands-on training in the agronomy (and grain) department. When asked what surprised him most, he said, “While there are always things that surprise me every day at FC, one thing that was a bit shocking when I was just starting my internship was that Farnhamville was in the process of loading their 5th train in just 15 days (that is a lot of grain).”
